Can You Get Rid Of Cellulite?

Get Rid of CelluliteTrying to get rid of cellulite can be even more frustrating than trying to lose weight. I’ve heard multiple stories from women who ate strict diets, hit the gym everyday, lost dozens of pounds but still had just as much cellulite. Working that hard and making so much progress yet still not looking good in a bikini can be very demoralizing. A lot of women get depressed and give up. Well don’t!

Too many people focus on the scale when they’re trying to get fit. If you lose weight from all over your body (including muscle weight) you might get smaller, but if your proportions are the same you won’t look much different. You see, changing your shape is more important than changing the number on the scale. That means you need to do more than just lose fat; you need to build muscle at the same time. And if you have cellulite, you especially need to build muscle in the butt and legs.

Go to any gym and you’ll see people doing the bench Don't Skip Leg Daypress, bicep curls, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc. Everyone likes to focus on the upper body, but most people forget about the legs. (Which is why some people end up looking like the guy in the picture to the right.) Because people use their legs all the time for walking, they don’t think it’s necessary to work them out at the gym, too. They couldn’t be more wrong! Legs are far more important than the upper body. The fastest way to burn calories and release HGH (human growth hormone) is to work out your legs. In fact, if you could only do one exercise for the rest of your life, the best one would be squats.

Even if it seems hopeless, I guarantee you can get rid of cellulite, but you need to do more than just lose weight. You need to exercise your legs on a regular basis. The stronger and tighter your leg muscles are, the more your cellulite will smooth out until eventually it’s gone. The Future of Cellulite Treatment?

A plastic surgeon in San Francisco is offering a new cellulite treatment that is completely non-invasive. Dr. Amir Moradi of Moradi M.D. has acquired a device called the Zwave. It was developed by Zimmer Asethetics and apparently it uses radial waves to reduce cellulite. Could this be the future of cellulite treatment?

I’m always skeptical when I hear about things like this, but lets give it the benefit of the doubt and look at how it works. The doctor rubs an applicator over problem areas. This smooth applicator makes it feel like you’re getting a massage, but it also sends high-energy pulses that break up the grid of molecules around your cellulite. This causes tiny gas bubbles in your cellulite to collapse which means smoother layers of fat and thus smoother looking skin. (If you want to know more, I found a PDF that goes into more detail.)

There are many benefits to this sort of technology, not the least of which is the fact that it’s completely noninvasive. Instead going in for an operation, it’s like you’re going in for a massage. There’s no pain and no downtime after the treatment is over. It even improves blood flow in problem areas, helps flush out toxins and rejuvenates cells. Pretty amazing, huh? Treatments take about 20 minutes and you’ll need 2 a week for 5 weeks (for a total of 10 treatments). Here’s a video that explains more:

But there’s one very important question we have to ask: Does it work? Dr. Moradi says his patients are satisfied, and we have no reason not to believe him. But there are three things you should know:

  1. It will only help people with mild to moderate cellulite. If you’re obese and your cellulite is very severe, it might not make a noticeable difference.
  2. It will cost you about a thousand dollars. The average cost per session is $100 and it takes ten sessions. That’s a bit pricey for most of us.
  3. It’s only a temporary fix. It says so on the Zimmer Aesthetics site. Quote: “ZWAVE Radial Pulse Therapy delivers high energy pulses to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite.” (Italics mine.)

This is less than encouraging. However, it could be that as the technology advances it will become more affordable. Eventually it might only take one session that doesn’t cost so much, and anyone could pop in for a treatment just before swimsuit season. But that’s at least several years down the road. Until then, we’ll have to keep watching what we eat and exercising our butts and legs.

Symulast Workouts

Symulast WorkoutsThis week I’m going to give examples of Symulast workouts so you’ll at least know what you’re getting into. Symulast is short for Synergistic Muscle Layer Stimulation Exercises. These exercises are designed to strengthen the leg muscles, particularly the muscles just beneath the skin. As those muscles get more firm, your cellulite will become less and less visible until you achieve Naked Beauty.

Low Tempo Leg Lifts

  • Get on your hands and knees.  Your hands should be directly beneath your shoulders and your knees directly beneath your waist. 
  • Lift your right leg and point it to the right. Don’t lock your knees, just keep your leg mostly straight.
  • Move your right foot in ten small, clockwise circles. Then move it in ten small, counter clockwise circles. This should burn.
  • Now do the exact same thing with your left leg. As you get stronger, the circles should become larger.

Symmetrical Hip Extensions

  • Get on your elbows and knees.
  • Lift your right knee just a few inches off the floor.
  • Slowly extend your right leg until it’s straight behind you and your right foot is high in the air above the rest of your body.
  • Slowly return your leg to the starting position (make sure not to bring your right knee any farther forward than your left knee) and do nine more.
  • Do this exact motion on the left side ten times. You should feel it in your butt.

Walking Lunge Touchdown

  • Start in the standing position. 
  • Step forward with your right leg and slowly bend both knees until your left knee is nearly touching the ground.
  • Stand up straight again and immediately step forward with your left leg and bend both knees until your right knee is nearly touching the ground.
  • Do this four more times while making sure your right knee doesn’t move farther forward than your right foot (same goes for the left knee and left foot).

When you do Symulast workouts on a regular basis, your leg muscles will become so firm that they will actually push outward against your skin and smooth away the cellulite. There are many more exercises along with specific routines that work best, but this should give you an idea of what Naked Beauty: The Symulast Method is all about. It’s not a quick fix.
